Try-A-Bike is a ‘long-term’ cycle loan scheme aimed at jobseekers, apprentices and students who have secured a job offer but will find the cost, time or lack of travel options a barrier to travelling to work.

Successful applicants will loan a bike from Lincolnshire County Council for a minimum of six months, to use for their journey to work, as well as for leisure and social trips.

Try-A-Bike is completely free. All you need to do is ensure you can meet the criteria, take part in our cycle skills training and keep in touch with us to service your bike.

You’ll receive

  • Bike and lights
  • A D-lock
  • High Visibility Accessories
  • Helmet

*There are criteria to be eligible for a free bike loan. Most importantly, you must have a job offer, or be starting an apprenticeship.

If successful, your bike will be ordered and be available to collect within two weeks.

Before collecting your bike, you will be required to take part in a Bike Skills Session, tailored to your experience level.

You will also be required to have your bike serviced after four weeks and then every three months.

Your bike will be fitted with a tracker. This will allow Access Lincoln to see what journeys you make on your bike, to ensure it is used for travelling to work as well as for leisure.
