Fitting walking into your daily routine is one of the easiest ways to make sure you get the recommended daily exercise you need.

If you would like ideas on how you can incorporate walking into your routine, have a read on our Walk More page for inspiration.

However, if you still find you can’t fit enough walking into your daily or weekly routine, why not try Walking Wednesdays?

Walking Wednesdays is a day that you set aside to make sure you do a walk. You can set how long you walk for, or for how many miles, but the idea is you mark out time in your diary to go for a walk every week.

The more often you do it, the quicker it will become habit and the easier you’ll find ways to incorporate walking into your everyday routine.

Walking Wednesdays could also be a good idea to fit a weekly social gathering in. Why not get your family or friends involved and go for a walk together?

If you are just starting out walking, we would recommend you start small. Don’t go for a very long and tiring walk as you will be less likely to do it again next week.

Start by going for short and manageable walks, and then build up how long and far you go as your stamina increases and the more comfortable you feel.

Or, take the opportunity to have some ‘me time’ and treat yourself. If you live close by a coffee shop you could walk there, relax with a drink, and walk back knowing you’ve burnt the calories and had some time to yourself to relax!

Once you’ve started walking on a weekly basis you can then try and incorporate more walks into your week, not just on Wednesdays! You may find you can cut some regular short car journeys out and walk instead.

Take the first step to having better health and wellbeing by going for a walk at least once a week and see how you can incorporate more walking into your everyday routine.
