Why walk

Why walk?

Walking improves your health and fitness while reducing congestion and emissions

The current recommendation for weekly exercise is 150 minutes, which walking briskly can go along away to helping achieve. Here are three reasons why you should walk:

1. Feel great

Walking can help you feel better due to the release of endorphins in your brain, as well as a good way to de-stress.

Walking in a group with family or friends is a great opportunity to socialise, catch up and have a laugh whilst also getting that daily exercise in.

Walking alone can also help you feel good, from listening to music, taking in the scenery or clearing your head, walking helps you stay focused, alert and refreshed.

2. Healthier you

Not only does walking help you feel better, it can also give you better health. Walking less than half an hour a day can radically reduce risks of health problems, including diabetes and heart disease.

A brisk 20-minute walk is a quick and easy way to increase your fitness, have better health and even help lose weight.

3. Travel better

We don’t always realise it, but often the majority of our journeys are less than a mile away, which could be easily walked rather than taking the car.

Regular journeys like the school run or errands can often be swapped for walking, saving your wallet and the environment.
